In several cases, those stories were gathered from the sculptors themselves, as interviews were conducted with Donald Baechler (Scarecrow), Laura Ford (Bird), Tom Otterness (Kindly Gepetto), Mimmo Paladino (Zenit), Bernar Venet (2 Arcs x 4, 230.5 Degree Arc x 5), and Jack Youngerman (Samarkand). Audio from the interviews was then integrated into the narrative.
Once the tours were scripted, the next step was to recruit notable St. Louisans as narrators. Mayor Francis Slay sent a letter encouraging participation in the project, and national figures and local luminaries alike responded enthusiastically. Recording sessions with the narrators, who identify themselves at the end of each tour segment, followed.
