In several cases, those stories were gathered from the sculptors themselves, as interviews were conducted with Donald Baechler (Scarecrow), Laura Ford (Bird), Tom Otterness (Kindly Gepetto), Mimmo Paladino (Zenit), Bornar Venet (2 Arcs X 4, 230.5 Degree Arc x 5), and Jack Youngerman (Samarkand).
To recruit notable St. Louisans as narrators, Mayor Francis Slay sent a letter encouraging participation in the project. National figures and local luminaries alike responded enthusiastically. Recording sessions were held with each narrator, who identifies him or herself at the end of each tour segment.
